Definition of interior design proposed by D.K. Ching (2002:46) as follows:
Interior design is the planning, layout and design of the interior space within buildings. These physical settings satisfy our basic need for shelter and protection, they set the stage for and influence the shape of
our activities, they nurture our aspirations and express the ideas which accompany our action, they affect our outlook, mood and personality.The purpose of interior design , therefore, is the functional improvement, aesthetic enrichment, and psychological enhancement of interior space.

In studying interior design required the mastery of some aspects of knowledge related to human needs within the space as an individual and social beings. Knowledge in question include: the history of design, psychology, sociology, ergonomics, construction, engineering physics, methodology and aesthetics. In addition to supporting the understanding of knowledge is also required mastery of skills in the process of designing the interior design, among others, the ability to program, the ability to make a design presentation, communication skills and so on.
